Hey everyone, how ya doin?
My first year of my Animation course is now over. I think it went by pretty quick but it was quite stressful getting my projects done. My main project was quite hard to complete on time as the plotline was too long and too epic so I had to cut bits out and animate what I could, and that animating it in flash takes a long time.
Animating lip synch was tough if you have a long voice file as you cant stop it once its played so you cant stop it at a certain point to animate a mouth movement so I had to hear the whole voice line over and over and guess which mouth movements to put over it.
So if anyone has any help on how to overcome this I’ll be very grateful.

So I had to animate what I could which means I had to sacrifice a whole night of sleeping to get a scene done, and decided to edit it together at college. The only problem was that I had trouble exporting the files onto movie format. Probably due to the version of flash I got (MX), cos when I tried to export it on avi It only exported the sound so I tried exporting it on the Mac in the animation room, and then tried to animate it on Final Cut pro.

The only problem was that the flash files looked kinda screwed up on it, the characters jump from one place to another, characters suddenly gain four arms, the volume keeps changing and pixelated dots appear but I had to edit what I could and hope for the best, including a quick title sequence I made with Livetype which is a brilliant Mac programme for making title sequences. So with a dodgy version I tried to burn it onto CD..except that it wouldn’t detect the DVD so with help from my tutor I had it saved as a file cd and had that submitted.

So I wasn’t very proud of my finished version and I wouldn’t expect a lot of marks from it, but I have put a lot of work into my sketchbook and my 15-second 2D and 3D pieces. So with my work submitted I only have to dread the results in the post to tell me if I did ok or utterly crap. I think I did ok and I’m certain that I will pass this course, or that £2500 quid I paid for this course would be all fer nowt.

So over summer I’m gonna add more scenes and edit a proper version to add to muy showreel. It just goes to show that I gotta cut down on the epicness on my animation as I get a few months in a semester to animate it.

Although it’s the start of the course for me, it’ll be the last time I’ll ever see in college. The last thing we did was Looking at redubs on youtube such as a hilarious Basil the Great mouse detective redub..i’m gonna miss that, but I told him that we can still keep in touch and hes always welcome to come down to southend to see a movie with me or go up and spend a day in Colchester or London with him.
I mean theres some really good movies coming out like Batman, Hellboy 2, Hulk, Clone wars ect…
I also met as well, he goes to the same college I go to. And he uses the same room as my group and often talks to members of my group, we hardly spoke although I knew who he was. He did speak to me at a vending machine asking about my Wario T-shirt and where I got it. And I asked him if he was Gagaman. I didn’t tell him who I was as he doesn’t know me that well and it feels good to have a secret identity, like if bruce wayne met the Joker or something.

So now I have a couple of months to myself, and I usually spend the summer looking for a part-time job but as I have one I have more free time in the week, so I got ideas for some pictures ( the next ESC batch will begin work next month) so apart looking up old cartoon intros on youtube like Rude Dog & the Dweebs, Mighty Max and Peter Pan & the Pirates I ‘ve been gaming. I been recently playing Mario Kart wii and the cpu is pretty tough, especially being PWNED by blue shells, lighting, moving obstacles and falling off the track. So I kinda stopped playing it since the 150cc tracks. At the moment I’m playing Warcraft III:Frozen Throne. Which is an expansion to Warcraft 3:reign of Chaos. It has more units and control new armies like the Naga, the Blood elves and errr…that’s it, as well as the usual armies of Night elves, Humans and undead.

According to the plot, The demon Illidan has orders to destroy the frozen throne at Northrend to put an end to the Undead Scourge, with the help of Blood elf mage Kel’thas and Naga sea witch Lady Vashj. However, Arthas, Death Knight of the Scourge realized that his master, the Lich King, is in trouble and his powers are fading, so he has to hurry to Northrend. However, the Dread lords betrayed him, as well as Elven ranger-turned Banshee Sylvanas Windrunner has regained her own individuality and rebelled against the scourge with the help of Dread Lord Varimathras and with her renegade undead they fight the Dread lords but only for herself. She has also gained some human allies.

Now the scenario is this:
Sylvanas and Varimathras have to besiege the capital city of the Plaguelands. (once the great kingdom of Lodaeron) it is ruled by the Dreadlord Barry, and the idea is to attack at the front whilst the human allies attack at the rear with the dwarven steamtanks.
Now the undead units that I like that will change the tide of battle are the necromancers, which recycle their dead as they can create skeletal warriors and mages from the corpses of enemies, banshees can possess enemy units and powerful frost wyrms ( a type of dragon).
Also they have stone statues that can heal and replenish yer mana and turn into a gryphon.
The basic idea is to take out the defenses and with those down we can go into the kill and the city should fall by teatime tomorrow.
I’m trying to finish this game before Lego Indiana Jones comes out.

Also I was thinking of taking a virtual holiday, I might go back to Middle-Earth as I haven’t been there in nearly a year and I heard they recently opened the ice realm of Forochel to the public and I heard they’re gonna open the Mines of Moria later this year. Theres also Azeroth but I’ decided not to go back there as I keep getting killed by the wildlife and foreigners. I remember being killed by a gnome 3 or 4 times, not a pretty holiday I can tell you!, But you do get the occasional tour guide to help you. One took me into a fiery cavern and left me there to die!
Then theres Second Life which I hear anything goes..but I hear you spend loads of real money on a piece of virtual furniture, come on! You can buy a real lampshade with that amount of money!

But I’m gonna put that idea on hold fer a while, I did hear they’re gonna have a holiday deal to the warhammer world so I might book a ticket at the travel agents for that.

Yeah this has been a real shock to me when I went on DA this afternoon only to find that everyone has been turned into a Mudkip!! I know its an April fools thing and the transformation should wear off shortly. Mind you, I do feel a bit weird in this form.

Nothing really excitings been happening over the last few months as we had builders renovating the house as we’re having a new kitchen downstairs and my room upstairs is being redecorated. I had to move into a room downstairs and been there since late January and so far my old room has new windows, walls repainted and carpet laid out. The furniture that has been ordered from Argos is taking far too long to arrive and all I got so far upstairs is an unfinished Wardrobe and a bedside chest of drawers. So It looks like I’ll be still down here for another month.


In college news I’m doing alright at the moment, I should be near the end of Pre-production and begin work on my animation. If necessary I may need voice actors but I think I can voice most of the characters myself. And theres also my essay which I have not started on yet as I really hate essays as I cant figure out what to write about and how to say it. I want to look into Walt Disney and how Disney has influenced culture and its role in media and the war. And also look into the allegations about Disney as I heard he was a secret Nazi or something and did some secret agent work. Something definitely worth finding out and also see if those subliminal messages in the animated movies were true.

Oh yeah about the ESC comic, its coming along fine, about 45% of the next page of comic pages is about complete and 2 new pages have been updated to my site.


In gaming news I bought Sonic & the Secret Rings for the Wii to see if this game can rekindle my faith in Sonic but it kinda did but it was a bit dodgy for me. The game play is ok as you can run and stuff, especially with the soul gauge but the story was so cheesy and Sonic’s acting was a wooden as Pinocchio driving a wooden car. Sonic tries to hit on with some female genie talking about friendship and stuff that makes it looks like a plot out of Sonic X. And instead of wishing for hankies, Sonic could have asked Ass-shara to make Erazor Djinn nice ( who has the voice of a cheesy announcer or car salesman, his Japanese voice sounds better) and return the Arabian nights, or have the world rings already and then leave him alone. And it never really explained how Sonic got that magic ring. Probably from old peddler who told him it brings a terrible curse but he didn’t really care. Its like some ripoff of Sonic movie madness or something. Ass-Shara wasn’t really helpful though, shes like a combo of Tikal, Navi and Princess Elise ( who I hear likes to snog dead hedgehogs). And she does the ultimate game plot cliché at the end that probably most characters do in games and movies.
Some missions were pretty simple and quite fun but others were a pain in the anus like racing a Navi ripoff called Uhu. It does remind me of some of the Mario missions but at least Koopa the quick and that racing dude in Mario sunshine were decent. I wanna get out a shotgun and nail that blue hovery thing. I know that the levels become more easier if Sonic equips certain skills which makes me think that theres some RPG elements snuck in there. Be better if you can equip them all but they become useless at the end as I had to fight one of the most hardest final boss fights who I call “Alf” or “Alvin” and although Super Sonic is not here this time, this new version which looks like some angry echidna with rings and things is not so powerful and can be easily killed if you slip up. Basically you have to charge up the soul gauge before Alf throws a DBZ attack at you and I was trying to move my wiimote like a maniac till my arms hurt whilst Alf throws everything under the sun at you. I only got as far as the first or second round so I decided to give up for a while.

FINAL VERDICT 6/10: this game is pretty decent in gameplay but the storys a bit cheesy and the skill thing makes the game challenging. So its good but not brilliant. Lets hope they don’t screw up with Sonic RPG and Sonic unleashed.. oh well roll on Mario Kart Wii.

So at the moment I’m replaying Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. So I’m I’m doing the Orc campaign and I’m playing as Gromm Hellscream whos camp is now overrun by Night elves who cheat as they use a very powerful centaur called Cenarius and I got PWNED in under 9 mins..ruddy night elves.

Well it was just basically me as a fox, like an alter-ego.


What species is your fursona and why did you choose that species?

well..bit of a history here, I think I quite like foxes being as I liked Disney’s Robin hood and Fox mccloud. They have been stereotyped as sly and sneaky but there has to be more than that. I even made a pic of Doctor Who as a Fox due to a regeneration malfunction. When I first got into IMP and DA I saw that the IMP fanbase at the time was mostly hedgehog characters based on sonic the hedgehog so I decided to make a sonic fancharacter myself based on Tails as I couldn’t draw anthro foxes very well back then. Mind u, I nearly either became a Hedghog, Echidna or a demon.

a helluva lot. Before 2004 I used to be on Newgrounds and I made a character which is me as a fox in a Link outfit, then when I joined DA I looked like a tails fancharacter with black sideburns, The outfit he started out with was blue jeans and a red shirt, this old version of me can be seen as a cameo on Sonic Movie Madness 3.3 fighting a green Mario. Then a few months later I ditched the red shirt and wore a white shirt and black jacket, well actually a hoodie cos this was what I was wearing at the time. After 2007 I found the sonic fancharacter community too overrated so as my drawing skills improved I made him look more like a proper anthro fox. I made his outfit and apperance look more detailed as I don’t like him as a sonic fancharacter anymore. So he’s kinda aged now.

Blimey, I don’t seem to have updated my journal since Christmas. Well, I didn’t get anything exciting, some stuff like books, toiletries, wii points card. (which I haven’t bought anything with yet) a couple of Daleks and so on, and I used the money to get a digital hard drive video camera so I can film stuff for college.

Apparently I didn’t need to at the moment as my photo camera is just as efficient. Also my courseswork was pretty hectic at the time as I had a deadline of 3 modules of work in ONE day. I had to sacrifice a night of sleep to work on a project. ( well that’s deadlines for ya). Good thing is I didn’t fail any as none of them fell below 40%. So mine range from between 40-60%. So I’m gonna try harder in the second semester. So I’m gonna work on my projects more earlier as one of them is a 2-minute animation. It might be hard to do so when I get to production stage I’ll see if I can get my friends here to help me, see what techniques they used to make their movies. ( as u have to teach yourself as the tutors get you a little nudge or something).

The idea I had was that its set in a park and a duck whos drunk wanders in a haunted house which is owned by a Scotsman. Other animals go in to find their duck friend but they also got captured by the Scotsman. The Scotsman (called Angus) wanted to eat them by putting them in a stew. Then the Parkie (who looks like a kewl dude) heard noises from the haunted house so he goes in. The parkie ( called Pete) confronts Angus who turns into a monster ( he was originally going to be just a DOOM 3 imp but might change it to a different sort of monster) Angus the scotsmonster sets a hoarde of Zombie geese on Pete who shoots them with a shotgun. He then shoots the scotsmonster with no problem. Pete then rescues the animals and they all left and laughed and stuff.
The plot might change tho as I have to work out how to fit it into 2 mins. And characters and ideas might change and the idea might be even dropped as my tutors said not to make my plots ‘too epic’. But I could make it quite basic as u cant go wrong with demon Scotsmen and zombie geese.

As I’ll be working a lot on these projects I might not be on here so much, but I will come by occasionally to comment on stuff. Be in mind that I am working on the next batch of ESC comics. They might be out by the end of the month.

I also signed up to Steam so my mate can give me Half-life 2 and Episode 1. they were pretty decent as u can use a gravity gun to pick up stuff and throw them and a more powerful one where u can pick up people and use them as shields. Its like crossing Ninteen eighty four with War of the Worlds as the combine have tripods called Striders…aaand its got headcrab zombies as well. I did try to play gmod with it but u need HL deathmatch and Counter-strike:source. So I tried it out at me local gaming center.

Also, after 7 years I finally got to play The Legend of Zelda:Majoras Mask. I was originally going to get Mario Galaxy but I saw the Zelda collection disk and I decided to buy it, I couldn’t get it before as it was too hard to find and the Wii VC haven’t released it yet. So now I have owned and played every single Zelda game except for the cdi-zelda games and Link’s Crossbow training (which I don’t think count). Its interesting trying to work out what to do in the allocated time u have before the moon kills us all. I’m surprised no one made a movie where the moon is gonna crash into Earth and someone has like a few days to stop it or we’re all screwed!. If I was Link I would buy a bomb shelter or fire a missile at the moon..hmm, probably get the bomb shelter. Characters and races from OOT make their return and the deku scrubs are more nicer this time.

I find collecting masks and items very intrersting. I yet have to find the one that gives Link a green head and makes him act like a cartoon character. So far I have about 12 or 13 masks. Completed Snowhead dungeon ( that Goht is a pain in the Goron ass) and rescued Epona.

In other news I went to the O2 with my parents (which is the Dome now some fancy smancy restaurant amusement place) to see the Tutankhamen exhibition. Its pretty nice seeing some ancient Egyptian relics that look like they were nicked from Frobman’s attic. I was disappointed tho that I didn’t see Tuts famous coffin. I might have seen it but missed it.. or its still in Frobby’s basement.

Also it was a pain getting there as the line to Greenwich was unavailable for no reason so we had to take 2 buses and a train there.

But afterwards we went to this kewl restaurant where waiters were walking from table to table with bits of different meats on a skewer so u can choose how much u want of each.
Finally my bedroom is being redecorated so I had to pack up everything and sleep in a room downstairs. I find it alright so I’m waiting until we get new furniture in there and move back in. might take a month or so.
