Description

This was originally uploaded in 2013 to Celebrate 50 years of Britain's Longest Running TV Sci-fi TV series Doctor Who which started in 1963, ended in 1989 and then revived since 2005. There have been about 13 versions of The Doctor (or more) through Regeneration which is how a Timelord cheats death.

So lets go back and look over nearly 60 years of the universe’s greatest Time-Travelling Doctor.

*UPDATES*
-Updated the Look of the 12th Doctor played by Peter Capaldi.
-Added the most current Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker.
-Will not be adding the Fugitive Doctor played by Jo Martin even though I am aware of her. I just want to focus on 2 versions of the Doctor at the moment. Also currently we know very little of her. But hopefully we might see her again in future seasons like River Song where over time we learn more about her.

Name: The Time-Travelling Grandpa

Actor: William Hartnell

First Adventure: An Unearthly Child (1963)

Last Adventure:  The Tenth Planet ( 1966)

The first Incarnation of the Doctor was a grumpy old man who stole a TARDIS from the planet Gallifrey, or that the TARDIS stole him with a recommendation by a female Time Lord security guard.

He traveled to Earth with his Granddaughter Susan and landed on Earth in 1963. The TARDIS changed into a British Police Box in Foreman’s Scrap yard in order to blend in with it’s surroundings but the Chameleon circuit went bust making it permanently stuck as a Police box.  Susan’s teachers investigated the Doctor & the box and they got roped into an incredible journey through time & space, meeting famous Historical figures and became enemies with The Daleks for the first time who will fight the Doctor throughout all his lives.  He also met the Cybermen for the first time who looked a bit like Gimps from space.

Cause of Regeneration:  His body was getting too old & weary causing him to regenerate for the first time, a way of cheating death where your face, personality, age and fashion sense change but your memories retain the same. It’s the same person but in a different skin.

Name: The Cosmic Hobo

Actor: Patrick Troughton

First Adventure:  The Power of the Daleks (1966)

Last Adventure:  The War Games ( 1969)

In a new body the Doctor was like a lovable clown with his bow tie and Beatles-style mop top. He likes to play the Recorder and created a bromance with Jamie McCrimmon and met The Brigadier for the first time who became his greatest ally of the classic era. Sadly most of his adventures have been lost due to the BBC wiping it’s archive footage back in the day. But new episodes have been recovered every year.

Cause of Regeneration:  The Time Lords exile The Doctor to Earth due to his interference in Time & Space and chose a new body for him against his will.

Name: The Action Hero

Actor: Jon Pertwee

First Adventure:  Spearhead from Space ( 1970)

Last Adventure: Planet of the Spiders (1974)

As an exile from earth and a new face. The Doctor has a taste for dressing up as a dandy and to kick ass & take names.  He began to work for The Brigadier and U.N.I.T as their Scientific advisor which is kinda like the British equivalent of S.H.I.E.l.D. Even though the TARDIS is out of action he has a range of transport that would make Batman go green with envy such as the yellow Motor car Bessie,  A sleek Hovercraft called The Whomobile and on occasion a boat & Helicopter. He loves magic tricks and can take a person out with Venusian Akido. He also met The Master for the first time, a Time Lord who was an old friend of his but became he greatest rival similar to that of Prof. Moriarty. After stopping Omega with his previous two incarnations his exile was lifted and can use the TARDIS freely again.

Cause of Regeneration:  The Doctor was dying in the arms of Sarah Jane Smith after receiving a lethal dose of radiation in the Giant Spider’s cave on Metabelis III.  His regeneration was assisted by his old mentor K’Anpo.

Name: That guy with the Scarf.

Actor: Tom Baker

First Adventure: Robot (1974/1975)

Last Adventure: Logopolis (1981)

This Doctor was the longest running and best known Doctor with his toothy grin, mile long scarf and his fondness for Jelly Babies. The Doctor is now a Bohemian and is quiet eccentric and strange with a child-like charm. He tried to prevent the creation of The Daleks who were created by mad Kaled scientist Davros and The Doctor’s actions there caused the first shot in the Time War. He also visited Gallifrey on a number of occasions and had a Robot dog called K-9 and a brilliant female companion called Sarah Jane Smith.

Cause of Regeneration: After fighting The Master who is now in a new body, The Doctor falls off a Radio Telescope.  A white figure called ‘The Watcher’ merges with The Doctor regenerating him into a new body.

Name: The Charming Cricketer

Actor: Peter Davidson

First Adventure: Castrovalva ( 1982)

Last Adventure: The Caves of Androzani  (1984)

The Doctor becomes a younger more quirkier fellow who’s always polite and likes to dress up as a Cricket Umpire. He tangled with the Third Master a lot (The second Master looked like a hooded Zombie), and met his previous 3 incarnations ( his last incarnation was out of action). He was also brought to Gallifrey to be executed and was stunned by his future incarnation who disguised himself as a Timelord Commander in order to save himself from being executed(my theory).  He was also one of the few Doctors who witnessed the death of one of his companion’s.. Adric. We also saw more of the Rooms in the TARDIS.

Cause of Regeneration: The Doctor sacrificed himself to save Peri as they were both poisoned, and there was only enough of the Antidote for one.

Name: The Fashion Disaster

Actor: Colin Baker

First Adventure:  The  Twin Dilemma (1984)

Last Adventure: Trial of a Time Lord (1986)

This Doctor was quite aggressive, loud-voiced and was known to have the worst fashion sense ever dressing like a cross between Joseph in his technicolor dreamcoat and a clown. But his Cat brooch is quite nice. He even tried to strangle Peri once! He met his second incarnation and he even fixed the Chameleon Circuit, but misses the Police Box look. He was also put on Trial by the Timelords and was prosecuted by The Valeyard an evil future version of The Doctor. He also may have gone back and arrested his 5th self disguised as a Timelord Commander. It was also during this Doctor’s run that the series was cancelled. But only briefly.

Cause of Regeneration:  The TARDIS crashes on a planet via a rainbow and The Doctor hits his head on the console.

Name:  The Wizard

Actor: Sylvester Mccoy

First Adventure: Time and The Rani (1987)

Last Adventure:  Survival (1989) Doctor Who: The Movie (1996)

Getting a better Fashion sense, this Doctor is now a sneaky trickster with a plan up his sleeve. He wears a  sleeveless top and an umbrella that would probably get him sued by the Riddler and it’s implied that he becomes Merlin in the future. It’s also implied that he has a secret that sadly has never been revealed.  He also got involved in  Dalek civil war in the area where he first came to Earth in 1963 and he hangs out with the best companion ever, Ace. A female Tomboy who calls the Doctor ‘Professor’ likes loud music, can smash up a Dalek with a bat and can blow stuff up. He also fought The Master on a dying planet of Cheetah people. After that, Doctor Who dissapeared off TV screens throughout the 90’s & early 2000’s.

Cause of Regeneration: After landing in San Francisco in December 1999, The Doctor was gunned down by a gang and was hurried to hospital. As no-one can understands Gallifreyan biology, his operation got effed up and he dies.

Name: The Half-Human

Actor: Paul McGann

First Adventure: The TV Movie A.K.A The Enemy Within (1996)

Last Adventure: The Night of The Doctor ( 2013)

Possibly the first of the Sexy Doctors to appear, this Doctor was young again with long flowing hair and dresses like Oscar Wilde. He also has the TARDIS Interior to be as big as a Warehouse! He was on a mission to prevent the world ending on New Years eve, 1999 in San Francisco. And he had to battle the 4th Master who wants The Doctor’s Remaining lives. The Doctor threw The Master into The Eye of Harmony and saves the world. He was also controversially known for Snogging a woman which will be common with his future incarnations and he said he was Half-Human. However in the graphic novel series ‘The Forgotten’, The Doctor said that to trick The Master. The TV Movie was The Doctor’s only appearance on TV in the 90’s. (Apart from Dimensions in Time & Curse of Fatal Death)

Cause of Regeneration: During The early years of the Time War, The Doctor was trapped on a spaceship that crashed on the planet Karn. Rescued by the Sisterhood of Karn and as he is dying, the Sisterhood said that he has no choice but to enter the war and he can choose a new body. The Doctor chose to be a Warrior and became someone he will later regret being.

Name:  Doctor Fantastic.

Actor: Christopher Eccleston

First Adventure: Rose (2005)

Last Adventure:  The Parting of the Ways (2005)

A new Doctor for a new Generation. Instead of Classy suits & Period wear, this Doctor wears formal clothing like a leather jacket and a skinhead so to blend in with people on Earth.(it also makes him look like a Fooball Hooligan) He is also now like Superman as his planet & his people were destroyed in The Time War making him the last of his kind. He is not alone as he got to travel with new friends Rose Tyler (who once had a singing career) Mickey the idiot and The Time Agent everyone likes to sleep with, Captain Jack Harkness who later gained the powers of Immortality.  He likes to say “Fantastic “ a lot, is a big fan of Charles Dickens and likes Bananas.

Cause of Regeneration:  After meeting his old enemies The Daleks who have survived the Time War thanks to The Dalek Emperor, The Doctor sends Rose & The TARDIS to Earth. Rose opens up the console revealing the Heart of the TARDIS who gave her godlike  powers and became the Bad Wolf. Rose obliterated the Dalek Emperor & his armies but the energy of the Heart of the TARDIS is killing her so The Doctor snogs her absorbing the energy and sacrificing his life.

Name: The Dramatic One

Actor: David Tennant

First Adventure: The Christmas Invasion (2005)

Last Adventure: The End of Time (2009/2010)

The most popular Doctor of the revival era and the one that got teenage girls interested in Doctor Who, as he was a young heartthrob full of energy and a wacky sense of humour. He’s like the mate you want to hang out with and get in trouble with. He also likes to chew & mug the scenery a lot and gets very emotional as he got a lot of friends & enemies killed and tried to save them.  He was also reunited with his old enemies The Daleks, The Cybermen, The Sontarans and of all people The Master, who was resurrected to fight in the Time War but ran away. He also had a new daughter, snogged Madame Du Pompadour and Married Queen Elizabeth I.

Cause of Regeneration: After a Resurrected Master turned everyone on Earth into him, he then used the Immortality gate to save Rassilon & the Timelords who went Mad during the Time War and sought to end all of Time. The Doctor crashed through a ceiling in order to stop them. The Master realized that The Time lords are the reason he was mad with the Drumming in his head and used his new powers on Rassilon sending  him & the Master back in the Time War. Earlier Wilfred Mott was in a protective case that protected him from the Master’s plan and was leaking with Radiation so The Doctor sacrificed himself to save Wilf. The Regeneration process was so slow The Doctor had enough time to say one last goodbye to all his companions. Including Rose.

Name: Mr. Cool

Actor: Matt Smith

First Adventure: The Eleventh Hour (2010)

Last Adventure: The Time of The Doctor (2013)

Even though he has a very young body he has the mind of a wise old man, and has a very unearthly look to him.  He finds a lot of things cool like Bow Ties, Fezzes and Chainsaws (probably).  He also trolled the universe and the laws of time, rebooted the Universe, faked his death and met a girl who died twice who was more important to him than he thought. He has a mixed-up relationship with a woman who is the daughter of his favourite companions.  He also loves Fish Fingers & Custard.

Cause of Regeneration: The Doctor ends up defending the town of Christmas on the planet Trenzalore, the planet of his final resting place for over 900 years as it contains a crack that had Gallifrey on the other side. Also, this incarnation is actually his last. And as he aged into a dying old man, The Timelords sent The Doctor a new life cycle enabling him to destroy the enemies threatening the town and allowed him to regenerate (After factory resetting him as a younger man).

Name: The Warrior

Actor: John Hurt

Adventure: The Day of the Doctor (2013)

Out of all The Doctors there was one regeneration that nobody knew about. He was known as The War Doctor or the True 9th incarnation. He fought a long bloody battle against the Daleks in the Time War and was there on the fall of Arcadia on Gallifrey. He was forgotten not because he was the only Doctor canonically to have facial hair, but because he stole a terrible Time Lord Weapon called ‘The Moment’ and used it to destroy all of Gallifrey and his own people in order to end the War. He might also be the one who wiped certain episodes from the Hartnell/Troughton years.  However events can be rewritten and with the help of all his lives, Gallifrey was moved somewhere else. Sadly he will still think he had done the deed.

Cause of Regeneration: Old age making this Doctor the first since William Hartnell to Regenerate due to natural causes.

Name: The Old Rocker

Actor: Peter Capaldi

First Adventure: Deep Breath (2014)

Last Adventure: Twice Upon a Time (2017)

The Doctor returned to the look of a pompous older man who has a bit of an attitude but likes to help out those in need and to be kind. Likes to dress as a stage magician and seems to have a talent of seeing possible futures. He was elected President of Earth in a time of crisis and was also reunited with The Master, who had a sex change via Regeneration into an evil Mary Poppins and goes by the name of Missy. He has a talent for playing the Guitar and rocked out in Medieval Times on a Tank. He might have jammed with Jimi Hendrix, secretly started the band 'The Who' and might have been the true Identity of Beethoven. He was also a University Professor for a time where he tried to rehabilitate Missy into a good person.

He also has a lookalike in ancient Pompeii

Cause of Regeneration: After Battling The Cybermen & The Master a second time, the Doctor blows himself up after being shot at. Fed up with regenerating countless times,The Doctor refuses to let go of his body and runs away trying to hold off the process. He ends up meeting his first self who was afraid to regenerate for the first time. After an adventure set in WW1 The two Doctors decide to give in and Regenerate.

Name: The Timeless Child

Actor: Jodie Whittaker

First Adventure: The Woman who Fell to Earth (2018)

(CONTAINS SEASON 12 SPOILERS)
The first time in Doctor Who history where The Doctor takes on a female form. Always excited and positive (despite banging on about the environment and Earth's future) She dresses in a colourful outfit that makes her look like a character of 'Rainbow' and outfits the TARDIS with a Custard Cream Dispenser. She also has a 'Fam' consisting of 3 companions although 2 of them left (at least they haven't died or trapped in another time period). As well as meeting a woman who turns out to be a version of her that's on the run, The Doctor learned that The Master (Who's now The Joker) has destroyed Gallifrey undoing everything she did in 'The Day of The Doctor', because it turns out that the Doctor is NOT a true Gallifreyan. That she's a Timeless Child with unlimited regenerations and the energy was harvested to create Timelord society. She was then reset as a child to wipe her memory. It depends now if in S13 The Doctor will try to find out where she truely comes from. She also met up with Jack Harkness and escsaped from a poorly secured prison.

The ‘Other’ Doctors.

These Doctors exist outside of Doctor Who continuity and have appeared in other forms of media. These could be Doctors from alternate realities.

Name: Peter Cushing

First Adventure: Doctor Who and The Daleks ( 1965)

Last Adventure:  Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D ( 1966)

Instead of an ancient Alien Timelord from Gallifrey. The Doctor was a human inventor named ‘Doctor Who’ who lived with his daughter & Granddaughter on Earth. He made a space and Time Machine out of a Police Box  and they got whisked off to Skaro and Earth in the distant future and took on The Daleks.  He also travelled with an alternate young Wilfred Mott.

Name: Richard E. Grant

Adventure: Scream of the Shalka (2003)

Even though he was a Regeneration of another Doctor and The Great Intelligence. This Doctor was in an animated web series to celebrate 40 years of Doctor Who in 2003. He likes to dress like an Edwardian gentlemen with a sinister complexion. He also has a TARDIS-Shaped Mobile phone and has an android version of The Master to keep him company. He also took on strange underground creatures called ‘The Shalka’.

Name: Rowan Atkinson

Adventure: The Curse of Fatal Death ( Comic Relief 1999)

Who knew that Mr.Bean/Edmund Blackadder was a Timelord? He has a cool jacket and a Severus Snape hairstyle. He’s also in an intimate relation with his female companion and tangled with The Daleks & the Master who is mistaken to have breast implants. This Doctor can also communicate via Farting.

Cause of Regeneration: An explosion trying to deactivate a beam which was  done multiple times making him regenerate into Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Grant. He was then shot with an energy Burst making him Regenerate into the Woman Joanna Lumley. The companion called off the Wedding so The Female Doctor hooked up with The Master.

So I hope you like it.
